Ladder Braid
This is actually a combo braid and is a combination of the feathered waterfall braid and the lace braid. As you can see, the hairstyle is called the ladder braid because it visually looks like a ladder going across the back of the head. Although the braid is secured in a ponytail, it definitely can be done as a half up half down hairstyle as well.
Difficulty: Medium
Tools:
- 1 comb/brush
- 1 - 3 hair elastic(s)/ hair tie(s)
Method:
1. Gather some hair from directly above the middle of your right eyebrow.
2. Separate that section into 3 smaller strands.
3. Bring the top strand under the middle strand. Then, bring the bottom strand under the new middle strand.
4. Add some hair to the top strand before bringing it under the middle strand.
5. Separate a small sliver of hair from the bottom strand before bringing it under the middle strand. (* This is called feathering.)
6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 in a diagonal motion until you reach the back of your left ear.
7. Continue the braid as a regular 3 strand braid until you run out of hair and secure the braid with a hair tie.
8. Gather some hair from directly above the end of your right eyebrow which should be around an inch under the start of the first braid.
9. Separate that section into 3 smaller strands. Bring the top strand under the middle strand. Then, bring the bottom strand under the new middle strand.
10. Add the first feathered piece from the first braid to the top strand before bringing it under the middle strand.
11. Then, bring the bottom strand under the new middle strand.
12. Bring the new top strand under the middle strand without adding any hair to it. Then, bring the bottom strand under the new middle strand.
13. Repeat steps 10-12 using the next feathered piece from the first braid to create the rungs of the ladder. Do this until you added all the feathered pieces.
14. Continue the braid as a regular 3 strand braid until you run out of hair and secure the braid with a hair tie.
15. Gather all the hair (including the 2 braids) to above your left shoulder and secure with a hair tie.
16. [Optional] Remove the 2 hair ties that secure the 2 braids and comb out the 2 braids. Braid the sections of hair from the two braids together to form one single braid. (This will further secure the ladder braid )'
