Rick Rack Braid (2 styles)
This is an accent braid which means it is done on small sections of hair to enhance an otherwise very basic hairstyle. This accent braid really is a great braid for beginners to learn because although it is very unique looking, it looks way more complicated than it really is and can be done in less than 5 minutes.
Difficulty: Easy
Tools:
- 1 comb/brush
- 1 or 2 hair elastic(s)/ hair tie(s)
- 2 bobby pins.
Method:
(*You need a side part or middle part for this hairstyle)
1. Section off a rectangular sized piece of hair from the heavier side of your partline. (If you have a right part, section off the hair from the left side of that partline, and vise versa)
2. Divide that piece of hair into 3 sections, 2 big sections and 1 small section.
3. Braid those 3 sections of hair till the braid is approximately 5 inches or 13cm long. (For more detailed instructions on how to braid, look at the "Double Braids" post.)
4. Loosely hold the ends of the braid while tugging on the bumps (of the braid) created by the 2 big sections of hair. Really pull at them so that the bumps become almost flat. (Refer to the pictures)
You now have 2 options...
*Refer to the pictures above, the pictures on the right are Style 1 and the picture on the left is Style 2

5. When you have pulled at the hair to your liking, secure the ends of the braid with the elastic.
6. Find a spot at the back of the head and use the bobby pins to pin the braid into place.
7. Use the surrounding hair to hide the bobby pins.
Style 2
5. [optional] When you have pulled at the hair to your liking, secure the ends of the braid with the elastic.
6. When you have pulled at the hair to your liking, separate the remaining hair into 3 equal sections.
7. Merge the rick rack braid into the middle section.
8. Braid those 3 sections of hair until you run out of hair.
9. Secure the ends with an elastic.
And your hairstyle is complete. Happy Hairstyling!
